Online Shopping & Product Reviews
It’s a Friday night after a long week at work, and it’s time to decompress. This means it's finally time to put on your favorite comfort show, and let it play in the background as you shop online from your couch with a crisp drink in hand. This activity isn’t for casual shoppers. No, this is for the soul who could never stop at a capsule wardrobe because retail therapy is their one true love. However, you reach a point where you’re on the fence about buying the item you are looking at, so you scroll to the bottom of the page to read the reviews. Only there are no reviews. Leaving you with sudden doubt and your internal voice saying, “Is this dress really worth it?” Had there been a single positive review, you would have been completely sold, but now you are unsure whether to take the risk and go through with the purchase. After all, if it doesn’t work out, you’ll have to take that inevitable trip to the store to make the return, which defeats the purpose of online shopping completely.
This is all to say that the lack of written reviews on products is an issue. We all shop online, so why aren’t we all leaving reviews? If I buy a pair of shoes online and they are cute and fit perfectly, I will absolutely write a review to let people know they run true to size. I will, of course, include that not only do I love my new shoes, but so do all the people who have complimented them since I debuted them. Leaving a review takes all of two minutes, and you can write it however you see fit. You can rave about the product, or let others know that purchasing this item was a complete mistake and that they shouldn't even consider purchasing it.
Many companies even send a follow-up email a day or two after your order has been delivered, reminding you to write a review and share your opinion about the product. I love this because it’s convenient, and it shows that companies know their clientele. Online shoppers love convenience. And the shopping community needs more members who are reliable for leaving reviews. When you find yourself opening up packages from your next online shopping session, which let’s be real, could be at any moment, take a minute to review your purchases, and know you’ll be helping out a fellow shopper.
